EDITORIAL NOTE

The so-called “Carte Villarosa” are an essential collection for the Vico scholar. It was Carlantonio (1762-1847), the fifth Marquis of Villarosa, who collected and published for the first time Vico’s notes, putting together the extraordinary collection that the National Library of Naples “V. Emanuele III” preserves in manuscript form. The precious Ms. XIX 42, in six files and twelve codes, is reproduced here in adherence to the classification of the Library and with references to the Catalogo Vichiano Napoletano edited by M. Sanna, Napoli, Bibliopolis, 1986 (pp. 501-505) and to other sources.

This publication is part of the electronic edition project of Vico’s Manuscripts of the National Library of Naples edited by the ISPF-CNR Center for Digital Humanities, using materials acquired through the ROP ERDF 2007-2013 Campania. Roberto Evangelista (files V and VI and review), Assunta Sansone (files I and III), Roberta Visone (files II and IV), Ruggero Cerino (technical support) collaborated to this edition, coordinated by Leonardo Pica Ciamarra. Scientific supervision by Manuela Sanna. Thanks to Mariolina Rascaglia of the National Library of Naples for her valuable advice in the preparation of the material.
